Welfare Schemes

The Board is implementing the following welfare schemes for the benefit of farmers and market functionaries.

a). Raitha Sanjeevani: This is an Accident Benefit Scheme implemented by the Board from 1996. Under this scheme, a farmer who meets with an accident and dies while performing agricultural operations in the field is sanctioned a sum of Rs. 25,000/- by the Board. The immediate dependent has to apply through the APMC for the sanction of the amount. In case of permanent disability the victim gets the financial assistance from board as follows:
a. Accidental death.. .. Rs. 25,000.00
b. Loss of 2 Hands and 2 Limbs Rs. 15,000.00
c. Loss of eyes .. Rs. 12,000.00
d. Loss of 1 hand or 1 limb .. Rs. 7,500.00
e. Loss of 1 eye .. Rs. 6,000.00
f. Loss of finger of hand or legs Rs. 1,500.00 (Per finger)
g. Broken waist .. Rs. 15,000.00

 

b). Janashree Vima Yojana for Weighmen, Hamals and Cartmen: The Board is implementing an insurance scheme for the benefit of 16,000 licenced Weighmen, Hamals and Cartmen working in different APMCs of Karnataka. since 1996. With effect from 01.10.2000 Janashree Vima Yojana has been adopted to avail Rs.100/- per person as premium under GOI Social Security Scheme. Under this scheme if a person dies of natural death the nominee gets an amount of Rs. 20,000/- and a sum of Rs. 50,000/- in case of accidental death. Relief is given under this scheme for different type handicaps on account of accident. The Board entrusts the scheme to the Life Insurance Corporation of India.

 

c). Hamals Housing Scheme: The Government of Karnataka has appointed Karnataka State Agricultural Marketing Board, as a nodal agency for the implementation of Hamals Housing Scheme in Karnataka. The Agricultural Produce Market Committees are entrusted with the job of constructing Houses for the licenced hamals. According to this scheme, 15% of the cost of the house is to be collected as margin money from the Hamals. The Ministry of Labour, Government of India sanctions a sum of Rs. 10,000/- to each Hamal as grant. The Department of Agricultural Marketing has plans to construct 2000 houses in 21 APMCs.
